Choking, that’s how I would describe what these big tech companies are doing to creator’s money. Little by little each day they tighten their grip. We see this all the time with these new 360 deals that are starting to pop up. Digging their fingers into every earning that artist receives. You can also see in the past with Spotify and Universal Music Group deal where all the money went to Universal and Spotify. Artist did not see a cent of that and Artists on Spotify get only .00437 cents per stream, you can not live off that.  Luckily we see the emergence of a new way to collect that check, Patreon.

A platform created by creators setting the bar for future creators; that should be the motto for Patreon. Patreon has been a rising multi-million dollar tech company that has been backing the creators since the beginning. New moves are happening, and it looks like there will be a bright future for them.

Jack Conte, one of the creators of Patreon, was a music artist himself. He was sick of not getting the money that he deserved. So he created his own. Patreon gives the most earnings to their artists than any other big tech company. Currently only taking away 5% of the creator’s profits. It looks like they are still pushing the way of the creator with the new addition to the Patreon family.

Joe Budden rapper, producer, writer, businessman, and podcaster, has signed on to the Patreon family as the head of creator equity. What does that mean? It means there a person whose sole responsibility is to figure how much a creator is worth. How much is a creator worth tho? No one knows it’s never been outlined. But, Joe’s appointment in the company is a good start for Patreon to figure out and be a model for all tech companies.

If you are a creator, I urge you to join Patreon and push it on everyone. So they can get the power to influence other companies.  If you are a creator, stop supporting tech groups that don’t give a shit about you *cough* *cough* Spotify. If you are just a listener, support your artist by buying his music, either vinyl or however the sort you decide to buy, and join a streaming platform that is not Spotify. Take back the creators worth from these big tech companies.
